Questions to ask if you're a Financial Advisor

 

  • Can someone from Trinity travel to a prospect meeting?

Yes. The Partners at Trinity are available to assist you in your client and/or prospect meeting concerning retirement plan matters. Through our OPEN Discovery process, we help Plan Sponsors understand what their current needs and goals for their company retirement plan then provide practical solutions that can help with those specific needs and goals.

  • What documents should I be requesting from my prospect?

Ideally, your prospect will have the following documents on file that will be essential to your analysis.

     -Plan Document
     -Previous Years Compliance Report (Nondiscrimination Testing)
     -Previous Years 5500
     -Previous Years Plan Valuation (Trust) Report
     -Investment Provider Contract
     -A complete employee Census in Excel for every employee who worked 1 hour including: 

                  Name, DOB, DOH, Compensation, Job Class

  • Do you have a Fact Finder I can use with my prospect?

  • Do you have any sample plan design illustrations I can show my prospect?

Yes, we have provided sample plan designs from the basic to complex here. These are, of course, for illustrative purposes only in your conversations with prospects. They should not be relied on for actual plan design consulting or tax advice.

  • Where can I find 5500’s online?

Check out www.freeerisa.com.  You have to register (it’s free), but it’s a great way to find good information fast. Call Trinity if you need help interpreting the data on the 5500 and how you can use it to assist you in prospecting.

  • Where is a good place to find industry news about retirement plans?

Perhaps the best way to stay on top of current news in the retirement industry is to check out www.benefitslink.com. Be sure to sign up for their newsletter (it’s free) as it collects articles from newspapers and journals across the nation.

  • What information do I need to provide to receive a fee quote?

Feel free to call or send us an email if you would like to receive a quote for a retirement plan prospect.

We will need the following information:

     -Name of Company
     -Number of Total Participants
     -Estimated Total Assets
     -Estimated Annual Flow
     -Investment Provider
     -Any unique Plan Design Features (Safe Harbor, Cross-Tested, Brokerage Accounts, etc.)
